Classification of antibacterial fibers

1. Fibers with antibacterial properties, such as certain hemp fibers, chitin fibers and metal fibers;

2. Textiles treated with antibacterial agents are easy to process, but have slightly poor washability;

3. Antibacterial fibers are made by adding antibacterial agents to the fibers during chemical fiber spinning. This type of fiber is antibacterial, has good washability, and is easy to weave and dye.

Antibacterial mechanism and processing methods

Currently, there are two main types of antibacterial agents used in textiles: organic and inorganic.

Organic antibacterial agents generally work by physically destroying the cell membrane of bacteria through the mutual attraction of the positively charged groups carried by the active ingredients to the negative charges on the surface of bacteria, thereby achieving antibacterial and antibacterial functions.

Inorganic antibacterial agents allow trace metal ions gradually dissolved in fibers to diffuse into bacterial cells, causing bacterial metabolic disorders and death.

Typical varieties of antibacterial fibers

1. Metal fiber

It refers to fiber bundles with a cross-sectional diameter of 2~20μm that are processed by special processes such as drawing, electroplating, decomposition, etc. of silver, copper, and nickel-chromium alloy wires.

It not only has good anti-static and anti-microwave radiation functions, but also has good antibacterial properties.

Tests have shown that nickel-chromium alloys and silver fibers have better antibacterial effects, but nickel-chromium alloys are less expensive. After blending metal fiber and cotton at a ratio of 10:90, the resulting metal and cotton blended yarn can be applied to knitted fabrics to make permanent antibacterial knitted fabrics.

2. Nano antibacterial polyester

Due to the high melting temperature of polyester, the selection of antibacterial agents must first consider high temperature resistance, not easy to decompose, safety and hygiene.

In order to make the nano antibacterial agent evenly dispersed in the polymer, in addition to surface treatment of the antibacterial powder, it is necessary to spin the nano antibacterial masterbatch made by the blending method.

3. Bamboo fiber

Bamboo fiber is a new regenerated cellulose fiber made from bamboo. Its morphological characteristics and mechanical properties are similar to viscose.

Bamboo fiber has unique natural antibacterial properties, and the antibacterial rate can reach 70% within 24 hours. Extended reading: https://www.yingjietex.com/product/coating-Oxford-Fabric.html
