GORE-TEX is an American W.L.GORE company. In experiments using PTFE, it was found that when it is in a film state, it has as many as 9 billion pores per square inch. The size of these pores is one 20,000th of a water droplet, but it is 700 times larger than water vapor molecules. In addition, it is soft and tough, so it is a waterproof and breathable fabric. GORE-TEX fabric is a light, thin, strong and durable fabric exclusively invented and produced by W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. in the United States. Membrane, which has waterproof, breathable and windproof functions, breaks through the shortcomings of ordinary waterproof fabrics that are not breathable, so it is known as the “cloth of the century”. GORE-TEX fabrics are not only widely used in aerospace, military and medical fields, but are also used by top brands to make a variety of casual clothing series. Windproof:
Prior to this, the textile industry had no ideal solution to the requirement of both waterproofing and breathability. Existing materials could only provide low levels of waterproofing and breathability, or could not achieve both. The emergence of GORE-TEX changed everything. And although GORE-TEX itself is not thermal insulation, it shows excellent thermal insulation performance because it is difficult for air molecules to penetrate and is very windproof.
Waterproof:
Generally, the waterproofness of waterproof nylon is only 1000-2000mm, which can only withstand normal showers; the slightly better ones are 5000mm, which can withstand heavy rains; the US military standard is only 7000mm, while the waterproofness of GORE-TEX is as high as 20000mm!
Breathability:
The specification of breathability is gm/m2/24hr. Generally, waterproof and breathable fabrics only have 2000-3000gm/m2/24hr, while GORE-TEX’s breathability is as high as 8000-10000gm/m2/24hr!

Types of GORE-TEX fabric:
1. 3-layer: GORE-TEX membrane is sandwiched between the surface fabric and the lining fabric like a sandwich. It is relatively simple to make, cheaper and more wear-resistant, but it is not as stiff and comfortable to wear as others
2. Double-layer 2-layer: GORE-TEX membrane is only added to the surface fabric, and an inner lining is added when making the garment. The production is cumbersome, so the price is slightly higher, but the garment is softer, more comfortable, and more ventilated.
3. Lining: GORE-TEX membrane is only added to the lining, and the outer layer is a highly water-repellent breathable fabric that has passed the GORE test. Because the surface fabric can be freely selected by the designer, the style can be changed in many ways. , the garment is soft, comfortable and more airy.
Four major functions
Waterproof
When the body gets wet from rain or snow, it will cause severe loss of body temperature and make us feel cold; therefore, outdoor clothing must first be waterproof. Because the GORE-TEX membrane has an average of 9 billion pores per square inch that are 20,000 times smaller than water droplets, preventing rainwater from penetrating, GORE-TEX outdoor clothing is absolutely waterproof.
Breathable
The human body is constantly sweating. If sweat accumulates in clothes and condenses into sweat, the moist sweat will cause the body to lose temperature, so we will feel cold. Therefore, we need to wear breathable clothes to allow sweat to evaporate easily and avoid moisture accumulation. The pores of each GORE-TEX film are 700 times larger than water vapor molecules. Human body sweat can easily evaporate through the film, keeping the body comfortable and dry at all times.
Windproof
Windy weather can cause our body temperature to drop, so we need windproof clothing to maintain our body temperature. The pores on the surface of GORE-TEX film are extremely small, forming excellent windproof performance, so it can block the penetration of cold wind and maintain a proper body temperature.
Durable
GORE-TEX fabrics must pass rigorous testing to ensure long-term waterproof, breathable, and windproof functions.
Easy to clean:
Wash gently in warm water using regular laundry detergent, or machine wash on slow speed. Clothes dryers and low-temperature irons are available
