Detailed classification of fibers, yarns and fabrics at a glance!
Fiber classification
Plant fibers: cotton, linen
Animal fibers: silk, wool
Man-made fibers (recycled): viscose, soy fiber, glass fiber, metal fiber
Synthetic fibers: polyester, nylon, nitrile, vitamin, propylene, ammonia, chlorine (fiber)
Yarn classification
Pure cotton yarn: carded/semi-finished/combed (high uniformity, high strength, easy to color)
Chemical fiber yarn: polyester, nitrile, viscose, chlorine fiber yarn
Blended chemical fiber fabric yarn: T/C, C/C, T/R
Ply yarn: a yarn made of two or more yarns twisted together
Filament: divided into monofilament and multifilament
Textured yarn: high-elastic nylon yarn, low-elastic polyester yarn, polyacrylonitrile fiber bulked yarn
Fancy yarn: slub yarn, spiral pattern, seersucker, fantasy yarn
Fabric classification
1. Classification according to the raw materials used for spinning yarn
The warp and weft yarns of the fabric are composed of a single raw material. Such as cotton fabrics, linen fabrics, silk fabrics, wool fabrics, etc. made of natural fibers. It also includes pure chemical fiber fabrics woven with chemical fibers, such as rayon, polyester silk, polyacrylonitrile fiber, etc. The main feature is that it reflects the basic properties of its constituent fibers.
Blended chemical fiber fabric
A fabric woven from two or more fibers with the same chemical composition or different chemical compositions and blended chemical fiber yarns. The main feature of blended chemical fiber fabrics is to reflect the superior properties of various fibers in the raw materials to improve the wearing performance of the fabric and expand its applicability for work wear. Varieties include: linen/cotton, wool/cotton, wool/linen/silk, wool/polyester, polyester/cotton, etc.
Naming principle: blended chemical fiber fabrics with a larger ratio are in the front, blended chemical fiber fabrics with a smaller ratio are in the back; blended chemical fiber fabrics with the same ratio, natural fibers are in the front, synthetic fibers are in the back, and man-made fibers are in the back .
Interlaced objects
The fabric’s warp and weft yarns are made of different raw materials, or one group of warp and weft yarns are filament yarns and one group are short fiber yarns, which are interlaced. The basic properties of interwoven fabrics are determined by different types of spinning yarns, which generally have different characteristics in the warp and weft directions. Its varieties include silk and wool interlaced, silk and cotton interlaced, etc.
2. Classification according to the method of fabric finishing
Woven fabric
Refers to the fabric made of warp and weft yarns woven with shuttle or shuttleless looms. The main feature is that the cloth surface is divided into warp and weft directions. When the raw materials, yarn count, and density of the fabric are different in the warp and weft directions, the fabric will show anisotropy.
Knitted fabrics
refers to a fabric that uses one or a group of spun yarns as raw materials and is finished with a weft knitting machine or a warp knitting machine to form a loop cover. According to the finishing method, it can be divided into single-sided weft (warp) knitted fabrics and double-sided weft (warp) knitted fabrics.
Nonwoven fabrics
refers to fabrics that are directly composed of fiber layers that are bonded, fused or finished by other methods without going through traditional spinning and weaving processes.
