CCTV broadcast sericulture system scientists’ guidance on spring plowing and mulberry planting activities in Xintian, Hunan
In the evening program of CCTV-17, a large-scale agricultural aid operation on March 31, 2023, “Spring Plowing is Unusual This Year”, Professor Liu Jiping, a scientist at the National Sericulture Industry Technology System, and Changsha Comprehensive Experimental Station were broadcast Researcher Chang Ai Junwen guided the cultivation and management of newly planted mulberry seedlings in spring in Xintian County, Hunan. After planting mulberries in January 2023, Xintian County experienced drought for nearly two months, resulting in a low germination and survival rate of mulberry seedlings. From March 13th to March 14th, at the invitation of the Xintian County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, two sericulture experts went to the mulberry planting and sericulture base in Houqiao Village, Xinlong Town, Xintian County and Xinxiarong Village, Mengtou Town. The sericulture base provides guidance on drought resistance and seedling preservation work. A team of experts conducted on-site inspections of newly planted mulberry seedlings and analyzed the reasons for the low survival rate: first, the mulberry garden was short of water and drought resistance was not timely; second, the mulberry seedlings were planted without following the technical essentials of “drying with straight roots, spreading shallow roots, and planting shallowly and firmly”; third, The first is that some mulberry seedlings have quality problems such as few roots and diseases; fourth, the soil cultivation layer in barren mountain mulberry gardens has not been formed and is susceptible to drought. Countermeasures such as anti-drought and moisture conservation in mulberry gardens, drug disinfection, firming and solidification, increasing application of organic fertilizers, and soil improvement were proposed. During this period, reporters from CCTV-17, the agricultural and rural channel of China Central Television, reported on the on-site consultation and demonstration activities.
