Wangjiang County is the largest cotton-producing county in Anhui Province. Since 2014, Wangjiang County has successively carried out scientific experiments on machine-picked cotton breeding, machine-seeding, drone flight control, machine-picking and other scientific experiments with the support of technical departments at the national, Anhui provincial, municipal and county levels. In 2020 and 2021, some large cotton farmers in Wangjiang County successfully applied mechanical sowing and drone flying control technology in field cotton planting; in 2022, mechanical harvesting in field was realized.

In order to promote the application of full mechanization of cotton planting and encourage large cotton growers to diversify cotton, the Wangjiang County People’s Government increased the annual cotton planting subsidy standard for large cotton growers to 450 yuan/mu in 2018, and then introduced incentives in 2022 The incentive policy for large cotton farmers to trial and demonstrate fully mechanized cotton planting is that if the entire mechanized demonstration is over 50 acres, a mechanical operation subsidy of 330 yuan per mu will be provided, including 80 yuan per mu for machine sowing, 50 yuan for aerial seeding, and 200 yuan for machine harvesting. At the same time, machine-picked cotton sales and seed cotton cleaning and processing have also arranged a purchase plan of 1.5 million yuan. The county’s successive introduction of incentive policies for large cotton growers has greatly stimulated the enthusiasm of farmers and large cotton growers to adopt fully mechanized cotton planting. In recent years, the cotton planting area of large cotton growers has increased year by year. In 2022, the fully mechanized cotton planting area of major cotton farmers will reach 1,000 acres.

At present, spring sowing is around the corner, and large cotton growers are actively purchasing the machine-harvested cotton variety 97 (machine-harvested 50). According to Zhou Xiaojian, associate researcher at the Wannan Comprehensive Experiment Station of the National Cotton Industry Technology System, judging from the number of machine-harvested varieties purchased by large households, the area of machine-harvested cotton is expected to increase by 2,000 acres this year, an increase of 200%.
