Functional fabric: Moisture-wicking fabric
In recent years, people have paid more attention to the comfort, health, safety and environmental protection of workwear fabrics. Sexual demands are getting higher and higher. As people spend more time outdoors, the trend of casual wear and leisure wear interpenetrating and integrating into one is increasingly favored by consumers. At the same time, workwear for people engaged in manual labor also puts forward comfort requirements for fabrics. The fabric of this type of work clothes requires that if sweat occurs during activities, the work clothes will not stick to the skin and cause a cold and wet feeling. As a result, new requirements for moisture absorption and sweat wicking functions have been put forward for fabrics.
As we all know, natural fibers such as cotton have good hygroscopic properties and are comfortable to wear, but have poor wrinkle resistance, shape retention and water conductivity. When people sweat a little more, cotton The fibers will swell due to moisture absorption, and their properties will decrease and stick to the skin. At the same time, the water dispersion speed is also slow, thus giving the human body a cold and wet feeling. Synthetic fibers represented by polyester have poor hygroscopicity due to the lack of hydrophilic groups. When people use them, it is difficult for the moisture emitted by the human body to be transferred through the polyester fabric, easily causing a feeling of stuffiness and discomfort.
Moisture-absorbing and sweat-wicking fibers have a high specific surface area. There are many micropores or fibril gaps and surface grooves on the fiber surface that communicate internally and externally, making it easy for moisture to enter between the fibers. At the same time, There are many tubular grooves or capillaries along the fiber axis, which provide channels for the migration of water. Therefore, the fiber has good water absorption and does not expand due to water absorption after absorbing water. The moisture between fibers is mainly held by the fibers by the attraction of a large number of microporous capillaries, or mechanically maintained in the capillaries between fibers. At normal ambient temperature, the moisture is simply transported to the surface of the fibers and evaporates.
Judging from the current industrialization of moisture-wicking polyester, physical methods are mainly used to spin several types of heterosexual fibers such as cross-shaped, Y-shaped, T-shaped and honeycomb. Different numbers of micro-grooves use the wicking of grooves to conduct moistureThe structure quickly absorbs moisture and sweat from the surface of the skin and excretes it instantly. The fibers on the surface of the cloth diffuse the sweat and evaporate it quickly, thereby achieving the purpose of moisture absorption, sweating, regulating body temperature, and keeping the skin dry and cool.
At present, major domestic and foreign workwear brand companies have made significant progress in the all-round research and development of moisture-absorbent and sweat-wicking fiber products, including fiber, coloring, and weaving. Fabrics, finishing and garments, the production technology is increasingly improved, the performance and quality of the products are stable, and a market of certain size has been formed. Fabrics made of moisture-wicking fibers are widely used in casual wear, outdoor travel casual wear, underwear, shirts and other fields because of their excellent properties such as light weight, moisture conduction, quick drying, coolness, comfort, easy cleaning, and no need for ironing. , favored by consumers. Because it can achieve the effect of moisture absorption and quick drying without adding any additives, it is an emerging environmentally friendly fabric that is durable, green, and safe. In the market, moisture-absorbing and sweat-wicking fiber products can be seen from woven to knitted fabrics, from fibers to spun yarns, from fabrics to workwear and home textiles, and a complete moisture-wicking fiber industry chain has been formed. In the future, moisture-absorbing and sweat-wicking products will develop into multi-purpose products, such as workwear, military supplies, medical, footwear, etc., with broad application space, and the potential for future market development is unlimited.
At present, moisture-absorbing and sweat-wicking fibers that are widely used and have good effects include: Coolmax fiber of DuPont of the United States, Topcool fiber of Taiwan Far East Fabric, Coolpus fiber of Taiwan Zhongxing Fabric, etc. Commonly used specifications for moisture-absorbing and sweat-wicking fibers include filament and short fiber. Most of the short fibers are blended with chemical fiber fabrics such as cotton, linen, Tencel and other raw materials.
Our company started researching moisture-absorbent and sweat-wicking fabrics a few years ago, and combined them with anti-static and other functions. They are mainly used in workwear and military products. After testing by national authoritative institutions, our products have reached the national standards stipulated in GB/T 21655.1-2008 “Evaluation of Moisture Absorption and Quick-Drying Properties of Fabrics”.
