What is hemp fiber?

Characteristics of hemp fiber

According to tests, general hemp can block more than 95% of ultraviolet rays without special treatment.

It is a good insulating material. Since hemp fiber has particularly good hygroscopicity, hemp products exposed to the air generally contain about 12% water, and the air humidity reaches 95%. Spinning properties of hemp fiber
Hemp single fiber length is too short, so it is not suitable for single fiber spinning , fiber bundles must be used for spinning, so the full degumming process similar to ramie cannot be used, and only the moderate degumming process similar to flax and jute can be used. Moderate degumming is to retain the glue layer that binds single fibers, and to remove the pectin-like substances between fiber bundles and all non-fiber substances outside the fiber bundles, so as to prepare fiber bundles suitable for spinning needs.
Spinning can be done in two ways: dry spinning and wet spinning. The dry spinning process has strict requirements on the length and fineness of the fiber bundles. Since the length of hemp single fibers is relatively short, in order to ensure the length of the fiber bundles, more single fibers are required to be crossed and pressed, resulting in thicker fibers and is only suitable for pure spinning of coarse yarns. This is consistent with the fact that dry spinning of jute and linen can only spin coarse yarns.
Wet spinning process can improve the quality of yarn. The principle is that during the wet spinning process of fine yarn, the fiber bundles in the roving Under the action of water and chemical additives, substances such as pectin soften and swell, greatly weakening the binding force between fibers. Under the condition that the drafting force of the spun yarn is greater than the bonding force between fibers, the fiber bundles are further split into small fiber bundles, thereby improving the spinnability of the fiber and increasing the spinning fineness.
During the spinning process, fiber bundles continue to separate, the fineness increases, and the short linen content increases. Excessive short linen content not only increases the difficulty of spinning, but also seriously affects the quality of the finished yarn, so it must be strict. Control the content of short fiber bundles. Longer fiber bundles with more gum content produce less short fiber bundles during spinning, so degumming before spinning must follow the principle of light degumming to obtain longer fiber bundles.
When using the wet spinning process, the key to improving the spinning fineness is to increase the softening of the pectin in the roving. Dissolution greatly reduces the bonding between fibers, thereby effectively improving the splitting effect.
