PTT fiber fabric: combines the excellent properties of polyester and nylon
Polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) is obtained by the polycondensation reaction of terephthalic acid (TPA) and 1,3-propanediol (PDO). It is a polyester material with unique mechanical and thermal properties. PTT maintains the basic advantages of polyester fiber, namely dimensional stability, electrical insulation and chemical resistance, and at the same time has properties that other PET does not have, such as excellent resilience, softness and dyeability. Therefore, PTT fiber will With a very broad application field, it will be a synthetic fiber variety that may replace polyester and nylon within a certain range in the future. Corterra fiber made of (PTT) fiber is known as the “future elastic fiber” and has inherent comfort, softness, fluffiness, easy dyeing, bright colors and durability.
Features:
1. Analyze the chemical structural formula of PTT. There are 3 methylene groups in each chain link. The “odd carbon effect” occurs between the macromolecular chains, thus forming a spiral arrangement. This spring-like arrangement gives PTT good intrinsic properties. The resilience and low modulus of the fiber determine that the PTT fiber has a soft feel.
2. PTT yarn can still return to its original length even if it is stretched by 20%. Its elastic recovery is almost twice that of polyester yarn. It can still recover almost 100% after 10 times of 20% stretching, which shows that PTT fiber has excellent elastic recovery performance.
3. The optical properties of PTT fiber are similar to PET, with a higher refractive index but lower birefringence. Theoretically, it is possible that PTT fiber has dichroism, but it has not been observed so far.
4. The glass transition temperature of PTT fiber is about 20 degrees Celsius lower than that of polyester fiber, so the dyeing performance of PTT fiber is better than that of polyester fiber. Even under normal temperature and normal pressure dyeing conditions, low-temperature disperse dyes can be used to dye deep and dense colors with good dye fastness.
5. The melting point and glass transition temperature of PTT fiber are similar to PA6, but due to the “strange carbon effect”, the melting point and glass transition temperature are significantly lower than PET. CorterraPTT resin only loses significant weight after 300 degrees Celsius, and the weight loss at 360 degrees Celsius is only 10% (in air).
Application:
1. PTT fiber has good fluffiness and resilience, and excellent stain resistance (especially after appropriate chemical finishing), so PTT fiber is more suitable for making carpets.
2. PTT elastic fabric is different from other elastic fabrics. It has the fluffiness of acrylic fiber, the anti-fouling property of polyester and the softness of nylon. PTT filament and staple fiber can be used to produce various elastic knitted fabrics with high elasticity and soft feel. Machine fabric, its production process and method are simpler than spandex.
(1) Raw fabrics can be easily made from PTT’s DTY, SDY and POY. Fabrics with good stretchability can also be produced by weaving under appropriate count conditions and have a good hand feel. In addition, fabrics with good performance can also be produced by blending PTT with other fibers (such as PET, acetate fiber, acrylic fiber, cotton, wool or nylon, etc.).
(2) The weaving of PTT staple yarn is similar to PTT filament. Whether it is knitted fabric or woven fabric, it can also be made from dyed yarn.
3. PTT fiber has the ability to be dyed with disperse dyes under normal pressure. The generally recommended dyeing temperature is 110 degrees Celsius. The dyeing temperature can be adjusted up or down appropriately according to the type of disperse dye. For this reason, it is used with wool, silk, cotton, and nylon. It has great advantages in blending or interweaving equal fibers.
Under normal circumstances, for PTT woven fabrics, sizing and washing are necessary. Disperse dyes can be used. The recommended dyeing temperature is 100℃-110℃. In order to obtain high stretch and rebound fabrics, it is necessary to heat set the fabric at a specific temperature. And add softener to the fabric to soften it. Then, final heat setting should be carried out (the setting temperature should be lower than or equal to the temperature of the previous heat setting). The resulting fabric has good stretch resilience and soft hand feel. Additionally, preheating and softening are optional, but final heat setting is a must. The typical dyeing and finishing process of PTT woven fabrics is as follows:
Washing → Alkalizing (optional) → Pre-setting (T1) (optional) → Dyeing → Heat setting (T2) → Softening (optional) → Final heat setting (T3) where: temperature Tl> T2>T3,
For knitted fabrics, sizing and washing are unnecessary, while relaxation and preheating are optional, and the dyeing process is similar to that of woven fabrics.
For PTT filament yarn, skein dyeing is possible. After dyeing, the finishing process is similar to that of knitted and woven fabrics.
PTT staple fiber yarn can be dyed by either hank or package dyeing. The process is similar to the dyeing process of PTT filament. If the crimp stability does not disappear, hank dyeing is a reasonable method to stabilize the shrinkage of the yarn at higher temperatures. When using package dyeing, different winding conditions need to be adopted to avoid excessive shrinkage of PTT staple yarn.
Market situation:
At present, Shell Chemical and DuPont are the two companies with the largest production volume of PTT fiber. In terms of cost, PTT fiber fabrics are low in cost. Compared with all-wool elastic fabrics, the price of PTT fiber fabrics will be 2-4 yuan/meter lower than the same specifications of all-wool elastic fabrics. EOFSQqhR
