Comprehensive analysis of the washing and maintenance methods of various fabrics (Part 1) – Ordinary textiles
Fabrics woven from different fabrics give us different wearing and using experiences. The cleaning methods for such a wide variety of fabric types are very different, and the same cleaning method must not be used. If used on unsuitable fabrics, the color may fade or cause permanent damage to the fabric. Especially if the wrong cleaning method is used for “functional fabrics”, the special properties of such fabrics will disappear, thereby increasing safety risks. The following article will introduce in detail the correct cleaning and care methods for different fabrics. This prevents everyone from damaging the fabric due to incorrect cleaning methods.
1. Pure cotton fabric
Pure cotton fabric is a common fabric in our daily life. Most clothing and household fabrics are made of pure cotton. Pure cotton fabric has strong alkali resistance, not acid resistance, and good high temperature resistance. It can be cleaned with various soaps or detergents. Before cleaning, you can soak it in water for a few minutes, but it should not be too long to avoid damage to the color. Underwear should not be soaked in hot water to prevent the protein in sweat stains from coagulating and adhering to the shirt, resulting in yellow spots. When using advertising shirt cleaning agent, the optimal water temperature is 40~50℃. When rinsing, you can master the “small amount and many times” method, that is, you don’t necessarily need to use a lot of water for each rinse; but you need to wash it several times more. After each rinse, it should be wrung out and rinsed a second time to improve cleaning efficiency. Clothes should be dried in a ventilated and cool place to avoid exposure to strong sunlight, which may cause colored fabrics to fade.
2. Linen fiber fabric
Linen fiber has a hard texture and poor cohesion. When cleaning, use lighter force than cotton fabrics. Do not use hard-bristled brushes to scrub or rub hard to prevent the fabric from fluffing. Do not twist hard after washing, do not soak colored fabrics in hot water, and do not expose them to strong sunlight to avoid fading.
3. Silk fabric
Before washing, soak the clothes in water for about 10 minutes. The soaking time should not be too long. Avoid washing with alkaline water. You can use neutral soap, washing powder or neutral cleaning agent. The bath solution should be lukewarm or room temperature. After cleaning, gently squeeze out the water and avoid twisting. And it should be dried in a cool and ventilated place. It is not suitable to be exposed to strong sunlight, and it is not suitable to be dried.
IV. Wool fabric
Wool fabrics are not resistant to alkali, so they need to be cleaned with neutral detergent. Wool fabrics will shrink and deform in aqueous solutions above 30°C, so the cleaning water temperature should not exceed 40°C. Cleaning solutions are usually prepared with room temperature water (25°C). Do not use a washboard when cleaning. Even if you use a washing machine to clean, you should wash it lightly and the cleaning time should not be too long to prevent shrinkage. After cleaning, do not twist it, squeeze it with your hands to remove the water, and then drain it. When using a washing machine to dehydrate, half a minute is appropriate. It should be dried in a cool and ventilated place, and should not be exposed to strong sunlight to prevent the fabric from losing its luster and elasticity and causing a decrease in fabric strength.
5. Viscose fiber fabric
Viscose fiber has a large shrinkage rate and low wet strength. When washing, it should be soaked with water and should not be soaked for a long time. Viscose fabrics will harden when exposed to water, so wash them lightly to avoid lint or tears. Use neutral cleaning agent or low alkaline cleaning agent. The temperature of the cleaning fluid cannot exceed 45°C. After washing, fold the garments and squeeze out a lot of water. Do not twist them. Avoid exposure to the sun after washing and dry in a cool and ventilated place.
Six. Polyester fabric
First soak in cold water for 15 minutes, and then clean with a general synthetic cleaning agent. The temperature of the cleaning fluid should not exceed 45°C. Dirty parts such as collars and cuffs can be scrubbed with a brush. After washing and rinsing, you can twist it gently and put it in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Do not expose it to the sun or dry it to avoid wrinkles after being exposed to heat
7. Polyacrylonitrile fiber fabric
It is basically similar to cleaning polyester fabrics. First soak in warm water for 15 minutes, then clean with low-alkaline detergent, and rub gently. Wash thick fabrics with a soft-bristled brush, then dehydrate or gently wring out the moisture. Pure acrylic fiber fabrics can be dried, but blended chemical fiber fabrics should be placed in a cool place to dry.
8. Nylon fabric
First soak in cold water for 15 minutes, then clean with general cleaning agent (regardless of the size of alkali). The temperature of the cleaning fluid should not exceed 45°C. After washing, ventilate and dry in the shade. Do not dry in the sun.
9. Vinyl fabric
Soak in room temperature water first, and then clean at room temperature. The cleaning agent can be ordinary laundry detergent. Do not use hot boiling water to prevent the vinylon fiber from expanding, hardening, or even deforming. Wash and dry, protected from the sun.
