The application gap of industrial textiles has become a major shortcoming of China’s textile industry

“Currently, my country’s total fiber finishing volume is 53 million tons, accounting for 54.8% of the total, accounting for more than half of the world.” Recently, at a conference organized by the Science and Technology Communication Center of the China Association for Science and Technology and the Beijing Association for Science and Technology Li Lingshen, president of the China Industrial Fabrics Industry Association, said at the “Industrial Frontier Technology Lecture” co-sponsored.

In September this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the “National Fabric Industry Development Plan (2016-2020)” (referred to as the Fabric Industry Development Plan), proposing policies and measures to promote the development of the fabric industry. Encourage the development of new chemical fiber materials, high-performance industrial fabrics, and the development and application of natural fibers.

The fabric industry is my country’s traditional pillar industry, an important people’s livelihood industry and an industry with new manufacturing advantages. Nowadays, how the fabric industry can become an industry that maintains growth and adjusts the structure in the new technology and new business environment, how it can become a component of strategic emerging industries, and how it can transcend fabrics and transform into a cross-field high-tech industry has become a new topic.

“China is the largest fabric country in the world. The reason why we have not become a fabric power is that the biggest gap lies in the application of industrial fabrics.” Li Lingshen said.

Li Lingshen introduced that the biggest feature of industrial fabrics is that they are specially designed, have engineering structures, and are used in special application fields. “Medical and sanitary fabrics, filter fabrics, transportation fabrics, geotechnical fabrics, structural reinforcement fabrics, etc., are all industrial fabrics,” Li Lingshen said.

“The fabric consumption market at home and abroad contains new room for development.” Li Lingshen said. In 2015, the proportion of fiber finishing volume in workwear, home textiles, and industrial fabrics was adjusted from 51:29:20 in 2010 to 46.6:28.1:25.3.

According to the fabric industry development plan, population growth and economic recovery will support continued growth in fiber consumption demand. It is estimated that the average growth rate of fiber consumption during the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period will be more than 2.5%. With the steady growth of investment in domestic infrastructure construction, environmental governance, medical and health care, industrial fabric fiber consumption will continue to grow rapidly.

Li Lingshen said that the largest category of industrial fabrics is medical and sanitary, including medical fabrics and sanitary fabrics. Today, the market demand is huge. “For example, the current market penetration rate of disposable surgical gowns in our country Only 5% to 7%, while the United States is over 90%, Japan, Europe and other countries are all at 70% or 80%.”

At the same time, haze has made the filtration and separation technology industry develop very fast, becoming a field with rapid progress; the rapid development of national defense and military industry has brought great changes to the industrial fabric industry. The progress in the future is moving towards high performance, multi-function, comfort, portability, modularity, intelligence and serialization; the progress of the automobile industry has brought about the prosperity of fabrics for transportation, and the fabrics for transportation are becoming more and more popular. To more and more meet the recyclability requirements of European and American standards.

“During the ‘Thirteenth Five-Year Plan’ period, there are five major tasks for the development of fabric science and technology. One of them is basic research. This is particularly important to us, especially the new material industry. Now we still lack basic research. In In terms of major key technologies and advanced applicable technologies, it is also necessary to increase research and development efforts. In addition, it is also necessary to optimize and improve the scientific and technological collaborative innovation system and strengthen the construction of standard support systems.” Li Lingshen said.

It is estimated that fabric production will reach 170.5 million tons by 2050, and this change comes from “substitution.” “A new fabric appears in Germany every day. Although we have not done statistics in China, unlimited substitution has been the norm in our industrial fabric industry in the past five years.” Li Lingshen said that the industrial fabric industry will be a “thriving one” sub-sectors”.
