Ghana benefits from AGOA’s significant growth in textile and clothing exports to the United States
According to Ghana’s Business Financial Times report on May 31, the U.S. Embassy in Ghana recently announced that thanks to the African Growth and Opportunity Act, Ghana’s clothing and textile exports to the United States have increased significantly, from a deficit in 2001 $250,000 grew to over $9 million by 2015.
The “African Growth and Opportunity Act” is the United States’ main trade facilitation measure for sub-Saharan Africa. Under this framework, 6,400 products from 37 African countries can enjoy tariff reductions and exemptions for export to the United States. On June 11, 2015, the African Growth and Opportunity Act was successfully extended for ten years and will expire at the end of 2025.
